EARLY DAYS OF HIP HOP in the 80'S
Something people don't know, is that when Hip Hop first hit the Downtown scene, it was embraced by the Punk Rock Scene. As young Bronx Ghetto kids, we found ourselves surrounded by famous punk Rock Bands like BLONDIE and THE CLASH. To the point where they even helped produce allot of our early rap recordings like Christopher "Chris" Stein from the group Blondie. The Movie Wild Style showcased this mix in the soundtrack, while most of the clubs we performed in as kids were either DANCE HALL or PUNK. You can see the influence in fashion, Groups like SHANGO, FURIOUS 5, and many others started sporting punk rock clothing and bracelets, as well as the young Webo Dancers and Poppers. We called the style New Wave as well.
